St Davids may be the smallest city in Britain but there are plenty of things to do! The city is named after the patron saint of Wales, who lived here way back in the 5th Century. Set within the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, St Davids has lovely cafes and wonderful restaurants, brilliant boat trips, beautiful boutiques and wonderful galleries. Come and enjoy a stay in this special place! Below are just a few of our favourite places to see and things to do...

Whitesands Bay

Whitesands or Traeth Mawr in Welsh (meaning big beach) is just five minutes from Tŷ Morlo. It offers a vast expanse of beautiful sand bordered by fascinating and endless rock pools. The beach is also the base for lots of outdoor activities from swimming, surfing and body boarding to kite surfing and boating. The beach has a big car park, lots of loos, along with a shop/café, selling everything from drinks, snacks, hot meals and ice creams to surfboards, wetsuits and kites. From the beach you can walk along the coast path in either direction and enjoy the total peace and tranquillity of the cliffs and little coves inaccessible by car. If you walk north towards St Davids Head you can head for the ancient burial chamber and bronze age hut circles on the headland, or climb up the rocky outcrop to Carn Llidi and see for miles and miles.

Porthgain, Abereiddy and the Blue Lagoon

The tiny fishing port of Porthgain used to export road stone all over the UK. Now it's a lovely little harbour full of small fishing boats. From here you can walk the coast path to the amazing Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy. Stay a while in Porthgain and enjoy a drink in the Sloop Inn or a meal at the Shed Bistro. Alternatively buy a freshly caught crab straight from the boat!

Abereiddy is a former slate quarry with vividly blue water. It's a brilliant place for daredevils to jump in, albeit from the lower platforms above the lagoon; our children have spent many a happy hour here doing just that!

Caerfai and Melin Tregwynt

Caerfai is the nearest beach to the house; it's a lovely sheltered, steep cliffed bay with gorgeously picturesque little series of coves. It's an easy walk from the house unless you have limited mobility or very young children, but there is also a small car park at the top of the cliff if you prefer to drive.

Melin Tregwynt is a beautiful whitewashed mill, situated in a remote forested valley on the Pembrokeshire coast. There has been a mill on the site since the 17th century. It's well worth a visit to Melin Tregwynt to buy some of the beautiful Welsh throws, cushions and blankets, all available in a variety of vibrant colours and contemporary designs.

Porthclais

A beautiful narrow inlet with a walled harbour along with a pretty fisherman's cottage overlooking the bay. Porthclais is still used by local fishermen and recreational sailors. The old harbour wall, built by the Romans is largely intact. The harbour dries out at low tide and is a good launching spot for small boats. Take the coastal path; this walk takes you over Wales' oldest rocks - of the Pre-Cambrian era - which dominate the peninsula. They're volcanic in origin, covered in places by layers of younger, sedimentary Cambrian rocks.

Coastal Walks

Pembrokeshire boasts the only coastal National Park. The coast path will take you for miles and miles in both directions. You'll experience some of the most breath taking views, and the chance to glimpse a wide variety of bird life, maybe seals and porpoises, as well as fantastic views of the islands! Get organised with the coastal shuttle bus and you'll even be able to get a lift back to St Davids, just outside your front door.

Boat Trips

The sea just off the Pembrokeshire coast is home to the most amazing array of wildlife. Atlantic grey seals are resident all year and they can be found around all the islands and some of the mainland coast. Take one of the many boat trips in late summer and you will be rewarded with wonderful sightings of seal pups. Our house, Tŷ Morlo, is named after the seals which our children have so enjoyed sighting. You can also see whales, dolphins and porpoises as well as seabirds and not forgetting the puffins! Longer trips will take you to Ramsey Island, or to Grassholm to see the gannets.

The Great Outdoors

And best of all, the great outdoors! St Davids has everything you need for an active holiday, whether you like walking, surfing, coasteering, sailing, kayaking – you name it!
